2 Gigs in 2 days - Reviews

Over the weekend we played 2 gigs, one Friday and another Saturday. We should have played 3 but the Godiva festival was unfortunately cancelled.

Gig 1 was organised by SGR Productions who we work with sometimes. In the quaint village of Bakewell in Derbyshire, the Olympic torch was passing through so we were hoping for a large crowd at the Wheatsheaf. Unfortunatley our gig was at 8.30pm and the torch was out of sight by 5pm. It was a long 2 hour journey and longer set. The audience was a little drunk as I think the Torch run had seen them open the beers a little early. We set up ourselves (it was just our gig, a long one) with our new PA and soundchecked the best we could. 8.30 came and we kicked off with a few stompers, the crowd cheered a little, then chatted, then cheered, then drank a bit more. It was clear from song 4 that the gig would be more of a run through. We had some lovely people come especially to see us but with the combination of a new PA (not completely sounding 100%) and Jonathan breaking 5 (Yes FIVE) strings, it was destined to be a slight shambles! We hung around afterwards for an hour to chat to people and had a good time. The Sat Nav decided to take us throught the tiny wooded, unlit roads/tracks on the way back and images of horror films came rushing to mind. But we got home safe and sound, albeit at 1.30am!

Gig 2 was part of Folk On The Water. It is a lovely little pub we played called The Folly in Napton. The crowd were just the right type for our tunes (Real Ale drinkers, they seem to adore us!) and the stage was nice and cosy. It was another longer set (4 out of the 5 return gigs have been over 50 minutes!) but we got through it well. We had nice applause and nice banter and left with the sun shining, then the rain, then more sun (the weather this week eh!).

Both gigs had their pros and cons but overall it was really good to get back gigging again and meeting new people.

In other news, we have talked a little about new songs, and may well enter a third party studio. All our recordings are done in our home studio, so we thought we'd give ourselves a challenge. We still have to iron a few things out though. Hopefully we'll do this sooner rather than later.

We're playing the Rowell Charter in Rothwell tomorrow, then Saturday the Fuse festival (6pm stage time) in Lichfield.
