Online now is a teaser for our brand new song 'Run'. Hope you like what you hear and as always, drop us a message to let us know what you think. Here it is . . .
Run (teaser) by Barricades Rise
Michael's 'Into The Wild' album is still available to download for free for another few weeks from http://barricadesrise.bandcamp.com/album/into-the-wild
There's not to much else to say really with regards to the band. We are meeting up twice a week to record and practice the new songs and those sessions have been great and we are moving along at a good pace. We have a few gigs booked in, but as stated we are not booking too many until the album is released.

Free solo album from Michael
A few months ago I saw the film Into The Wild. It was amazing so I bought the book. That was also amazing. Something in me stirred and I came upon the idea to write songs inspired by the film and book. Writen in 2 days (4 hours a day), my own solo album is kind of an experiment. Some of the songs are only really short ditties, it's no masterpeice but it wasn't about being mixed and mastered to perfection, it's about getting what touched me so much with the film and book, out in music.
It can be downloaded for free from our bandcamp site http://www.barricadesrise.bandcamp.com/ for 1 month.
On the band front, we hooked up last night and ended up recording the majority of a new song. Thats one song pretty much done, with last nights song about 75% recorded. In the next few gigs we are going to play a few new ones. Roundabouts, one of the new songs, has been played for a good 3 months now so we aim to get proberbly 2 new ones in for either the gig at The Jolly Colliers or if not then definately the Barwell gig on Feb 11th.

On your marks...
Set...
GO!!
The first proper recordings were laid down last night for our next album. It has been started.
The song 'Run' written by Jonathan was actualy demoed very well a few months ago so we thought we'd ease ourselves into it with changing guitar parts and a few extra vocal melodies. In a very short space of time the whole track sounded complete. There is still mixing and mastering to do but this will be completed when all other songs have been recorded. But as it stands, track 1 has (initially) been finished.
We may well up the ante with regards to recording otherwise it might be a long process. We will post a snippet (very short snippet) of Run in the next week or two.
There are 3 songs that are fairly complete in demo form so they will be tackled next. No titles revealed but I will say one is at the moment being called ...'Banjo song', oooh the anticipation.
Just to add, even though we are into the recording process we are still writting, with both of us combining to create a beast of a song last week. The sun is well and truly shining in Barricades World

Leicester - Two Gigs, One Weekend
So our first two gigs of 2011 happened to fall on the same weekend and both in the city of Leicester. For us, Leicester is still relatively new territory and somewhere we hope to play a lot more this coming year.
First off was a slot at ‘Off Beat’ magazines website launch gig. ‘Off Beat’ have been amazing towards us and have championed our debut release and the No Love Lost EP we released last year. Because of this, when we were asked to play this event, we jumped at the chance as our way of saying thank you. In a weird way, it added a little pressure to the gig as we really wanted to be on top form. After circling the massive Holiday Inn Island about ten times searching for a parking space, we eventually got to the Crumbling Cookie CafĂ© and shook hands with the Off Beat team. We were second on the bill and took to the stage around 9 (I think). The set went down a storm and everyone seemed to really get into it. More than a few people had seen us before and we seemed to impress a lot of people who hadn’t. What was truly amazing and completely unexpected was that the creator of Off Beat (Andy Mills) took to the stage as we finished and announced that we had been awarded Off Beat’s ‘Best Release of 2011’ for the No Love Lost EP. So, although we probably said it a hundred times on Saturday, Thank you so much ‘Off Beat’.

We spent the rest of the night chatting with various people outside the venue and at one point a homeless gentleman decided to try and storm the venue and even threatened to shoot me. He was obviously a music fan and a believer in the lord as his exact words were
“Bob Dylan Man, Bob F@~king Dylan. Praise The Lord. John Lennon is Dead Man, JOHN LENNON. Love Me Do, I’m Gonna F@~King shoot you . . . ."
Discussions of the new album and life in general filled the car journey home and all was well in Barricadesland.
The OBS (original Band Showcase) at the Musician was our Sunday night venture and an excited Barricades Rise took to the roads armed only with a post code and a SatNav. This would normally have been all we needed however, the charging point in my little Punto had decided to die and more importantly the SatNav only had about two minutes of Battery left. We held off using the SatNav until we hit the middle of Leicester and Michael had to keep turning the thing on for literally two seconds so we could see which turns to make before the batteries cut it off again. It was a worrying time but we got there in the end.
We were fifth on the bill and had the pleasure of watching Hanna Faulkner play a lovely set of songs that had some great melodies and her voice was superb. We also, caught a set by fellow ‘2 Weeks 2 Make it’ (The video thing we did last year) artist FatBwoi. He played a very entertaining set of tunes that have a comedy edge but are good tunes in their own right. Another couple of artist played before us and then we hit the stage. BOOM, string snappage on the first song NOOOOOOOOOO. Luckily we just about saved it with an 'a capella' ending chorus to The Preacher. Fatbwoi saved the day by lending me a guitar and we were off again. It was a short set of five tunes but we seemed to win over the crowd and were showered with words of praise after leaving the stage.
Whilst keeping one eye on the last act, we discussed plans for the new album and different ideas and then drove home listening to old songs I had written about 8 years ago and discussing which bits we should rework for Barricades Rise. With a slightly drunk and very talkative Michael in tow, conversations soon started hitting the hard issues in life and at one point we were discussing (quite seriously) what type of lettuce we prefer with different types of dinners. . . . Rock and Roll never dies when Barricades Rise are on tour.
We also found out this weekend that a French Blog site http://blog.punkartoon.net/ has named our covers, live and demo album the best release of September 2010. It is pretty amazing considering bands such as ‘Kings of Leon’, ‘Iron Maiden’, ‘Ray Davis’ and ‘Motorhead’ won some of the other months. Thank you very much our French friends.
It really does feel that something special could happen in 2011.

Practice makes perfect
Last night saw us take the first steps focusing on playing the new songs. Our plan is to meet twice a week, one day to record and the other day to practice. Last night saw us practice a few new songs and it went extremely well. With around 10 songs in various stages of development we decided to focus on 2 that were 95% complete. The run through of these two songs took around 2 hours and within that time one song was pretty much nailed on the head. It is one of Jonathan's songs written around 2 months ago and features a bit more melodic harmonies than much of You and Your Adored, it's much more inclined to be featured on No Love Lost, but like Jonathan stated a few posts ago, the new material really is progressing. The practice went so well that we feel the song could be ready to gig very shortly. Perhaps not this weekend but a definate candidate for our gigs at the beginning of February.
Talking of gigs, we have just been given the opportunity to play with Roddy Woomble, who is the lead singer of the band Idlewild. We will be playing with him on February 3rd at The Musician in Leicester. Tickets are £12 but if you wish to come then let us know as we can put your name on the door list to be let in for £8.
Idlewild, for those that don't know, were a Scottish Indie-rock band that became big towards the latter stages of the 90's. They had a successful career over 10 years and in fact their '100 Broken Windows' album was forever on my stereo in 1999. I feel a great pride in being chosen (yes chosen, they approached us) to support him and look forward to having a chat with him.
We have also added a new gig in March in Leamington, just to give us a shot at playing a lot of our new stuff. It'll be a good 50 minute set too so maybe a mixed bag of new and old. More details on our gig guide at www.barricadesrise.co.uk
That's all for now, next meet up was due to be Thursday but Coates has a charity poker thing so more than likely will be Monday.

Back in Band Mode
We had our first band session of 2011 last night at Casa Del my house. Over Christmas we had met up quite a few times for drinks and our conversations always turned to the band at some point in the night however, this was our first dedicated band night. I’m not going to lie, I was really rather excited all day at work and when I got home and as I sat at my window starring out wishing Michael would come quicker, I’m sure I could hear the faint sounds of ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ as I saw his sweat face pull up :)
So the plan of attack was to demo some of Michael's tunes so we could sit them against my songs and see where we stood. The attack was executed precisely and three of his four songs were demo’d. We now have 9 songs in demo format and a few more ideas on the boil also. We are going to continue to write for about a month and then hit the proper recording hard. We did discuss dates for release but that was for our own ears only as it is still too early to tell. It will be this year and hopefully sooner rather than later is all I am saying.
We ended the session with brief talks of touring and promotional ideas and Michael left into the sunset like a rogue Cowboy and I returned to my dining quarters for a tasty Chicken Croel.
Next meet up is Monday for live rehearsals of the new stuff.
Expect some really exciting things from us in the coming weeks

Hi 2011, how are you?
First off, Happy New Year!
2010 was great for us and we both have great feelings on 2011. This Thursday will be the first meet up (for the band anyway) since before Christmas with the plan to listen to all we have so far demo wise and start to rerecord some of my songs. My songs are recorded in my studio set up which is far below the 'official' barricades rise set up, so usually when demoing, I sit with a guitar and mic and do a one take thing. The rerecordings will be a more rounded sound including percussion, other instruments etc. After my demos have been redone, we will sit down and listen to all of our songs back to back, to see what to do next. I have a positive feeling that not much more demoing needs to be done and we might start in February to record properly, we'll see though, we'll blog on Thursday/Friday.
As for the rest of 2011, we will obviously be launching our new album. Discussions have taken place between us as to the ideal venue. The last 2 launches have been at The Crown in Nuneaton and have both been sell outs. We have to ask ourselves do we go for a larger venue, and also a lot of our fans are outside Nuneaton so do we launch it in Coventry? These have only been preliminary discussions as we have to write and record the album first!
Secondly, due to writing, we will not be playing many gigs at the start of the year. We have a few booked already and will book a few more, but will not be extensively touring like we did last summer. During the build up to tha album and thereafter we will tour the hell out of the album.
We are both pushing hard to get our music further afield this year, many festivals have been highlighted that we could shine at, plus various podcast, radio stations and tv opportunities and at this stage being sought out.
The difference between the end of 2009 and 2010 was huge, and I'm hoping the same can be said by the end of 2011.
We both wish all of you a happy and prosperous new year.
One more thing. A demo will proberbly be online by the end of next week. Keep an eye out.
